DIY or Call Us?

What you can safely check: the four bolts that hold the operator bracket to the post or gate frame. If one is loose, tighten it with a socket wrench and watch for movement over the next week. Check the clevis pin that connects the operator arm to the gate bracket; if the cotter pin is missing, replace it before the main pin walks out.

Where DIY goes wrong: cutting a seized bolt with a torch near the operator’s internal limit switch, which sits inches behind the bracket on most FAAC models and costs $200+ to replace. Grinding a weld without supporting the gate, which then torques the operator arm and strips the internal gearbox. And attempting to re-weld a bracket in place, which almost always introduces slag into the operator mechanism and voids any remaining warranty. The bracket is steel; the operator housing is aluminum.
